Resource efficiency and sustainability
Sustainability, environmental friendliness, the reduction of plastics and the recyclability of packaging are topics that present the packaging industry with a wide variety of challenges. Packaging materials are a valuable resource that must be collected and preserved. Therefore, building and expanding the circular economy are the goals of the coming years. ILLIG's mature and sustainable packaging solutions with the guiding principle of "Circular Thinking" have long supported this. A position paper published at the end of October by the associations of plastics manufacturers, the plastics processing industry and plastics machinery manufacturing, the waste disposal industry and plastics recycling calls for the circular economy and resource efficiency to be driven forward. Here, the associations call for, among other things, recycling-friendly product design, better separation and sorting of waste, and increased use of recycled materials in plastic products.
Next 75 - Circular Thinking Solutions
With Circular Thinking, ILLIG supports the circular economy and clearly defines the sustainability goals: Reduce, Reuse, Separate, Recycle and Renew. Optimized packaging can reduce the use of non-renewable raw materials and make recycling possible in the first place. Especially the packaging thermoformed on ILLIG production systems. They are thin-walled, resource-saving, can be produced economically and are very well suited for recycling. A significant contribution to this is made by ILLIG's customized molding and packaging development. The experts at the ILLIG Technology Center (ITC) in Heilbronn thus developed the solutions of tomorrow. The latest food packaging already on the market, made of more than 50 percent less plastic with cardboard wrapping of the I-PACK® brand (ILLIG intelligent packaging), is one result of this development work. One of the other projects is the industrial production of packaging made of thermoformable paper.
