Products can be offered in a better way based on new packaging design, quality and high utility value! The behavior of customers is frequently determined and controlled by emotions, motives and function. Above all, the key to success is consumer contact at the point of sale. In order to be able to offer brand products of superior quality and high utility value manufacturers are in need of packs to support these product features. A brand manufacturer approached ILLIG, thermoforming and packaging specialist domiciled in Heilbronn, to tackle this complex task. Two pack sizes were in demand, 8-up and 12-up. A further requirement was to attach an anti-theft protection element (RFID tag) to the inside of the lid material. Besides providing standard production reliability to the user, the configurated BSA 37 offers different packaging solutions thanks to shortest conversion times and flexible equipment. Equipped with quick-change technology this machine is the optimum packaging system for packing different products. New impetus is given especially to premium products since it is possible now to manufacture high-quality packs in different versions. Complex packaging systems with high automation level call for perfect synchronization of machine and tool (format set). This is an essential condition for smooth production especially with a view to the relatively short cycle times. The required negative undercut on the blister alone (allows stand-up pack in display) was a remarkable challenge for tool and machine designers. Form, seal and punch station, the standard machine components, were supplemented by different additional units. Card former, feeding device for dispenser (blades), card loader, feeding device for lid blanks and pack turning device in the discharge area were required to ensure a universal application range of the machine. Combined with sophisticated quick-change tool technology high productivity is ensured. Last but not least, this high productivity is supported by the reproducibility of all process parameters. The efficiency of ILLIG's BSA 37 is enhanced by formation of so-called "packaging families".
